Supa dupa wedding planning!

Out of all the weddings, I have ever planned or coordinated one stood out to me; this was one of my favourite weddings, one that I was most proud of. This wedding was on 20th September 2010 and guess what? It was on a Monday.

Not only did the wedding have a unique date, but also the couple was easy to work with, they were open to suggestions and the best thing about them was that they trusted me completely to execute their wedding plans irrespective of the fact that 90% of the time they were out of the country.

The wedding was small, intimate, and classy with a guest count of 80.Originally it was to take place on 18th December 2010 with a guest count of 200 but then they changed the date which left me with only two weeks to plan the wedding, you can imagine the dilemma I was in because I was thrown into the frying pan and I wasn’t sure if I could handle the pressure, plus within the same month I had four weddings to coordinate. So was I going to pull this one off!

Well you bet I did and I must say quite nicely because I love a challenge, the way round  it is simple have a focus, nothing is ever impossible ‘impossible’ is a word that does not exist in my vocabulary . I admit though it wasn’t easy planning the wedding at times, in fact it was so stressful until I just wanted to shut out.

August- December is not a season for impromptu weddings because most vendors and venues are fully booked so as a planner I was pulling a first one on myself (planning a wedding in 2weeks!) the unfortunate part was that I had already booked the couple and we had signed the contract plus I just couldn’t abandon them. The only thing was to rely on prayers and God’s grace to pull off the wedding.

One challenge was that we had one and a half weeks to the wedding and we had no venue, caterer and a stationer, so my mind was spinning like what was going to happen? We decided to look at some hotels and Jacaranda hotel gave the best deal but the couple was still hesitant this is where it requires a planner to be tough, I had them come to the realization that we had two and half weeks to their wedding and we had no time to dilly dally plus there was zero chance to get as good a deal as Jacaranda hotel so when they agreed with me it was a relief; venue-check, catering-check= a happy planner, now all I had to stress about was the flowers, stationery, deco, entertainment and photo and video which was pretty easy as I had the vendors in place and the good thing is that they could work with my new date. Great!

After the couple had made their down payment for the hotel, everything else fell into place in exception of the stationery, as my stationer could not work with the period available so I was really stressed. I almost reached my breaking point where you just wanna say ‘it was good but I think it ends here’ but thankfully another stationer who is a friend pulled through for me and I must say she did a good job.

The wedding did go well; the church ceremony took place in a small beautiful chapel called St.Jude and with the decoration in place, it looked amazing. The reception was under a glass roof  that I decided to drape with gold and chocolate brown drapery as that was the wedding colour scheme with the sunlight it gave a beautiful effect, the seat tie backs were  in gold but we ended up using  sunshine yellow tie backs as we had ran out of gold it actually looked good! It complemented the yellow flowers. For the high table, I had the gold and chocolate drapery cut into strips, which hang as a curtain backdrop that had a flowing effect. The deco looked fabulous! The bride liked it, the day went well and it exceeded the bride’s expectations as by her words. Jacaranda hotel staff was also really good they were helpful, they listened and did as told without hesitating. At the end of it all it is God who made everything happen.
